Frasier star Kelsey Grammer has said the upcoming reboot of the hit ’90s sitcom will honour the late John Mahoney.
The classic show centred on Dr Frasier Crane, a psychiatrist-turned-radio presenter (played by Grammer), and Mahoney became a cherished cast member as Martin, Frasier’s wise-cracking father.
The actor sadly passed away at the age of 77 in 2018, but Grammer has assured fans the Paramount+ revival will pay tribute to him.

“His loss is and was devastating and must be given the proper attention in honour of the extraordinary man he was and the contribution he made to the show and to the acting profession,” he told Fox News Digital.
“We will most certainly be honouring him according to his merit. A man of merit he remains to this day.
“John was a kind man, and the world cannot afford to lose a kind man at any time.”

It’s still unclear how the show will specifically handle Mahoney’s passing, but back in 2019, Grammer suggested that his onscreen son Freddie could take on some similar personality traits to his grandfather.
“My son Freddie would be 30 years old, people have postulated many ideas about what he might be – anything from cabaret singer to policeman,” he said.
“I tend to go with a reincarnation of Martin’s character, so he picked up on more from his granddad than his dad. That’s the one I like.”

Previously speaking of his own character’s return, Grammer teased: “Frasier’s gonna change cities again.
“He thinks he’s gonna go off and do one thing, and sure enough, his life takes him in another direction, and he ends up rich beyond his dreams.”
Frasier will stream on Paramount+ in the US.
