Coronation Street has aired two shock arrests in Stu Carpenter’s wrongful conviction story.

This week’s episodes have seen Stu’s daughter Bridget Woodrow confess to him that she actually killed Charlie, then went along with mum Lucy’s plan to blame the murder on Stu.

In Friday’s (October 14) episode, Stu told his daughter he wouldn’t report her to the police because he didn’t want to ruin his relationship with his granddaughter Eliza.

However, the situation was taken out of his hands when lawyer Dee-Dee called at the Speed Daal to reveal the DNA testing showed a 50/50 match to both Stu and his ex-wife Lucy. Alya immediately realised this meant Bridget must be responsible for the crime.

Stu had no idea of this as he brought Bridget to No.6 for an awkward chat with Yasmeen. But a knock at the door soon revealed that the police had been alerted and had arrived to question Bridget. Stu desperately tried to cover for his daughter until she agreed to go to the station for questioning.

During a tense showdown, a distraught Stu accused Alya of ruining his life when she admitted she’d been the one to call the police.

Over at the station, Lucy was also brought in for questioning, so Bridget agreed for Eliza to stay at No.6 for the time being. This left Stu and Yasmeen to duck questions from Eliza about why her mum and nan were with the police.

Back on the cobbles, Alya was left feeling horrible for the way events unfolded, while Stu confided in Yasmeen that clearing his name has turned out to be the worst thing that’s ever happened to him.

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
