Coronation Street spoilers follow.
Coronation Street stars Elle Mulvaney and Jack James Ryan have teased a new direction for their characters Amy Barlow and Jacob Hay.
The unlikely duo started dating earlier this year and they’ve defied the odds by managing to stay together, despite disapproval from Amy’s family.
Speaking in an exclusive chat with Digital Spy at the Inside Soap Awards 2022, Elle and Jack confirmed that their characters will soon be setting up home together.
Amy and Jacob have already made a previous failed attempt to live independently, so they currently reside at Number 1 with the Barlows.

However, in their new storyline, they’ll start renting a flat with two of their fellow teen characters.
Elle told Digital Spy: “We are moving out! We are moving into a new flat with our friends, so it’s very much Friends-esque.
“There’s going to be loads and loads of fun and you’re going to see them in a whole new light.”
Jack added: “It’s Amy, Jacob, Aaron and Summer. The great thing about this is we’re really good friends outside of work with Harriet [Bibby, who plays Summer] and James [Craven, who plays Aaron].
“That chemistry that we have off screen, we’re going to try and bring that on screen. I think it’s going to be a really great dynamic and we’re really excited for it.”

Elle and Jack went on to discuss how Corrie fans have responded to Amy and Jacob’s relationship.
Elle said: “We had such a good response. We had a conversation beforehand and I said: ‘You’re coming in as a baddie, Amy’s been on the Street for years, so you’re probably going to get a bit of backlash. And also everyone gets backlash! Don’t be on your own with it, if you’re upset about anything, talk to me’.
“But honestly, we didn’t have any negative comments. I messaged him and I was like: ‘I don’t know what’s going on, but everyone likes it!’
“Weirdly enough, even though people think that Amy and Jacob wouldn’t be suited, they really, really are.”

Jack added: “I think we’re starting to become a new Steve and Tracy, bringing in that dynamic. We were really unlikely, but we work so well and we get along really well off-screen.
“The writers have pulled it out the bag for us, they really have. They’ve given us such good material. When the material’s that good, you’ve just got to turn up and say the lines and it works for itself.”
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
