EastEnders spoilers follow.
EastEnders will kick off Lola Pearce’s storyline next week, after she suffers a terrifying seizure at Lexi’s pageant.
The BBC soap has confirmed that it will be exploring a brain tumour story with Lola, with reports suggesting that this will ultimately take Danielle Harold out of the show.
Lola is left panicked when Lexi’s dress rips while getting ready for the pageant, and they rush over to Chelsea’s where Felix offers to help.
Afterwards, Lola invites Callum to watch Lexi perform but he declines, believing it’s best to keep his distance following an awkward run-in with Ben.
With the dress fixed, Lola corners Callum and manages to change his mind about attending.
At the pageant, Ben is about to share some bad news with Callum when they are interrupted by Jay.
Before Lexi’s performance gets underway, Lola has another dizzy spell in the bathroom and collapses due to a seizure.
Jay and Ben are horrified to find Lola on the floor and immediately call an ambulance.
At the hospital, the doctors complete a CT scan in the hospital and later inform Jay and Lola that they have found a tumour, which may be cancerous.
Speaking about Lola’s story, Danielle said: “It means so much to be trusted with a storyline like this – one that’s close to many people’s hearts.
“Sadly many of our viewers will be able to relate to Lola’s story and it’s been heartbreaking to speak to the families affected by brain tumours and hear their stories.
“They’ve been so amazing in sharing their experiences with me, and I’m so lucky to have them. I wouldn’t be able to do this storyline without their support.”
Advocacy groups Brain Tumour Research and Macmillan Cancer Support are partnering with EastEnders on this storyline, which will explore how Lola copes with the diagnosis as well as how it impacts her family.
EastEnders airs on Mondays-Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
